School shootings - considerations on prevention
A horrible event like the recent school shooting in Winnenden, Germany, leaves people speechless and inevitably brings up the question of what should be done so that something similar will not happen again. Ruth Linssen, professor for police studies at the technical university for public administration of North Rhine-Westphalia and Erich Marks, member of the EFUS Executive Committee, propose in their article considerations on prevention, though -as they underline already in the title- in a context of relative ignorance of the phenomenon.

Position Paper
Mayors, members of the European Forum for Urban Safety (EFUS), representing 300 cities around Europe, gathered on May 8th 2009 and adopted a position paper in anticipation of the European elections 2009. Cities play a major role in terms of crime prevention, urban safety, justice and liberty during the growing economic crisis. The European cities’mayors invite all national and European parties and candidates to consult and include in their agendas the issue of integrating a European crime prevention strategy.
